You Are Failing Us

Greta Thunberg has some words for the world today. They are worth reading. They are worth hearing.

They are worth the time of all of us.

She is 16. She is Swedish.

Twitter has her words trending.

I saw memes of people yawning. I saw people claim she is misguided. I saw insults on her appearance. I saw memes comparing her image to Nazi propaganda. I saw twitter in full ridiculous form.

The same form which propelled the great twitter bully to President.

Embarrassing. Truly

It does not surprise me that people are sitting in their underwear dismissing somebody who travelled to another country and put herself out there. No, not dismissing- insulting. Fucking twats.

Apathetic viruses.

Trump can read like a third grader and be praised for words he merely read. Likely for the first time.

I will follow her.

Just like we turned to the youth when we needed a sane voice on gun control.

Here. Are words Greta said.

She (just like those affected by gun violence) has a stronger conscience than all of Glenn Beck’s supporters. All of the Hannity drones. All of the Wolf Blitzer dummies.

All of Rachel Maddow’s followers.

She may have not wrote her own words, but she delivered them with a conviction we have not seen in a long, long time.

Because, honestly, Americans are greedy and lack any moral compass.

This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you!

You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!

You are failing us. But the young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you. And if you choose to fail us, I say: We will never forgive you.

“We will not let you get away with this. Right here, right now is where we draw the line. The world is waking up. And change is coming, whether you like it or not.
